A Difficult Day
Okay, I know it's been quite awhile since I posted, but I just haven't been in the blogging mood for awhile. Ella was sick two days ago and I kept her home from preschool yesterday since it hadn't been 24 hours since her fever had broken, but she was definitely feeling much better. She walked into the room I was in and asked with a very straight and inquisitive face..."Mom, who's my twin?" "What?", I said, not sure where this came from. "What do you mean, 'who's my twin?'" "You know, the person that looks just like me. Who is she?" Okay, it was finally time for her to know. I knew this day was coming, I just didn't realize it would be this soon and I thought I would be more prepared emotionally, but I wasn't. I started crying and called her up into my lap and began to tell her of her twin. I told her that she in fact, did have a twin that died while I was pregnant with both of them. Ella asked me if it was a boy or girl. I told her I didn't know. It died too early for us to know. She handled the news quite well. She didn't get upset but had a lot of questions for me. I answered all of them. Later in the day she came over to me and said "Mom, it's sad that my twin died." I agreed with her and then told her that her twin was with Jesus and that when we leave this earth and go home to Jesus that we will meet her twin that is waiting for us. That seemed to make her a lot more happy and quickly took her mind off the subject. It's funny, out of all my kids, she's the only one who ever pretends to be a twin, makes her baby dolls twins, her stuffed animals twins, etc. I think her sixth sense has always told her she was different in that way. It's certainly a unique experience...one that I will never fully understand. It amazes me nonetheless. She's a very special child and I'm so glad I've had the privilege of being her mother.
