New Year's Eve Feast

I used to hate to cook, but when my second child was born so was my desire to begin cooking.

Not just the ordinary, but new things.

Last year, my New Year's resolution was to go through my cookbooks and try everything I could find in them that sounded the least bit good. Now I still have many more cookbooks to go through, but I've already finished about 14. We've added many new meals to our family cookbook thanks to my digging and my family's willingness to try new things. There've been a few things along the road that were so-so or just down right horrible, but you never know until you try.

For our 2009 End of the Year Meal, we had (drum roll please)...

French Onion Soup with Toasted Rye and Gruyere Cheese, Roasted Cornish Hens, Corn on the Cob and Baked Potatoes. What a way to the end the year! It was fantastic!! The soup was just a little too sweet as I used sweet vidalia onions and 1/4 cup sugar, which is what the recipe actually called for. I think next time I'll cut the sugar in half, but what a tasty treat. Here's to many more delicious meals in 2010.

SNOW!!!

Well, I got my wish come true. We spent Christmas in Kansas with my folks and it began raining, then sleeting then snowing (hard, blowing snow) on Christmas Eve. After the wind died down and the snow stopped falling, we took the kids outside in it on Christmas Day. I wish we'd have taken pictures of all three kids, but apparently our eyes were on the littlest one to see how she would experience her first snowfall.
I guess she didn't like it too much. Her poor little shoes just weren't made for this type of weather and her feet were getting cold and wet very quickly. Jason tried to get her to make a snow angel and even laid down on the ground to show her how to do it, but she adamantly refused. It was precious, though!
